I offer a range of professional historical research services for individuals, academics, heritage organisations, publishers, museums, family historians, and anyone requiring expert assistance with historical records. Whether you need someone to visit an archive in Scotland, transcribe a difficult medieval document, or translate a Latin charter, I provide reliable, carefully researched work tailored to your project.
With experience working across medieval, early modern, and modern sources, I specialise in documents written in Latin, Scots, and English. My work combines palaeographical and historical expertise with practical archive research, enabling me to help clients access and interpret records that might otherwise be difficult to consult.
Many historical sources remain accessible only in archives and manuscript collections. If you are unable to visit in person, or simply need an experienced researcher to undertake archival work on your behalf, I offer a Scottish archive research service, with regular access to the National Records of Scotland, the National Library of Scotland, Glasgow City Archives, and other repositories across the country. Research can be undertaken for genealogy, local history, architectural history, academic projects, property research, and a wide range of other enquiries.
Alongside archive research, I also provide professional transcription and translation services for historical documents. Whether you have a medieval charter in Latin, an early modern Scots legal document, or a nineteenth-century manuscript that is difficult to read, I can produce accurate transcriptions and translations that make these records accessible to modern readers. Details of these services can be found on the dedicated Transcription & Translation page.
Every project is different. Some clients require a single document to be transcribed, while others need several days of archive research across multiple collections. I am equally happy to assist with small enquiries and larger research commissions, and I will always discuss your requirements before providing a quotation.
If you are unsure exactly what you need, or where the records you are interested in are held, please get in touch. I am always happy to discuss potential projects and advise on the most appropriate approach before any work begins.
