I’m a historian of sixteenth and very early seventeenth century Scotland, and mostly the reigns of Mary and James VI. Here are some summaries of my major projects.
Other Scottish Work
Christina MacDonald MacQueen and St Kilda
On the theme of early modern Scottish history, I contributed a chapter, and helped edit the front and back matter of:
- 2017 ‘Kindred, Status and Society in Lowland Scotland’ in Charles Edward Lynch, Romilly Squire and George Way, The Scottish Clan and Family History Encyclopaedia, St Kilda (Holdings) Ltd.
This broadly charts the contours of Lowland society and the steady transition of what would be called ‘clanship’ in a Highland context. Some of the themes from this were picked up in my interview in 2023 for the On the Dogwatch Podcast.
