Images of Ravenscraig Castle, Aberdeenshire

The earliest depiction of Ravenscraig, a detail from Pont’s 1590ssketch map of Buchan, showing Ravenscraig on the left, Castle Hill in the middle, and Inverugie on the right. See the original here.
The castle as sketched in 1788from the southin Adam de Cardonnel’s Picturesque Antiquities of Scotland. The round tower has since collapsed, as had the corner on the near right hand side. All the dressed stone around the doors and windows have also been robbed.
The castle as appears in the 1805Beauties of Scotland. This looks suspiciously as just a re-working of de Cardonnel’s illustration above.
The castle from the west and opposite bank of the Ugie, sometime between 1838 and 1855. James Giles, R.S.A. (1801-1870). Note the lack of trees around the crag.
